Improved patient pathway at the Valdemar Private Hospital with Capio Diagnostics’ Point of Care Testing system Point of Care Testing (POCT) is an innovative form of testing of patient samples outside a conventional laboratory setting. It provides faster deliver times and can therefore provide a more flexible and efficient laboratory medicine service with potential for efficiencies of medical and economic outcomes within the healthcare process.
The aim of the cooperation between the Valdemar Private Hospital and Capio Diagnostics is to
establish a POCT service at the hospital with IT connections to Capio Diagnostics’ POCT business allowing for remote monitoring and management of the testing undertaken on a POCT basis. Point of Care Testing can provide a more flexible and efficient laboratory medicine service, offering improved access for the patient, reduced number of clinical visits for patients, improved report turn around time to allow a ‘one stop shop’ and potential for efficiencies of medical and economic outcomes within the healthcare process.

About Point of Care Testing The 24/7 availability of POCT provides opportunities for improved access, and thus options to simplify acute care, chronic disease management and screening. It can reduce the overall cost for a healthcare episode, reduce the use of staff and equipment and provide greater value for money.
It improves report turnaround times to allow a ‘one stop shop’ reducing the number of clinical visits for patients. Emergency results are available within minutes allowing for improved clinical decision making and potentially a reduction in the number of patients admitted to hospital. Treatment can start earlier and the care pathway is convenient for doctors, staff and patients. About Capio Diagnostics’ Point of Care Testing Services Point of Care Testing Services (POCT) is part of Capio Diagnostics and focus on a selected range of analysers to provide a broad menu of tests within Biochemistry, Haematology and Microbiology. Our test menu currently includes:
