05/12/2011Press review Unilabs Eylau, France

During the recent Journées internationales de biologie (JIB) held in Paris, Unilabs-Eylau published the findings of a study carried out between January 2000 and December 2010 on samples from 109,244 patients tested at Unilabs.

Overall, the study found that total cholesterol levels for men and women, regardless of age, decreased by 5.0 % and 1.1 %, respectively. The largest decrease was found in the 40 - 49 year-old age segment, with levels for men decreasing from 2.4 g/L in 2000 to 2.1 g/L in 2010. In the same age segment for women, the decrease was less important, going from 2.1 g/L to 2.0 g/L but notable nonetheless.

"There are multiple reasons for this decline", explains Dr. Paul Cohen-Bacrie, Scientific Director at Unilabs-Eylau. "Over 10 years, a great deal of effort has been put into prevention. People are paying more attention to what they eat and this is especially true for men."
